What we call ad in tennis, is the method of scoring 40-40 and it is called Advantage. The following point is called deuce. After deuce points are scored is called ad in by the server and ad out by the receiver.
Example
The game is won if the player with the advantage scores (ad) the next point. If they lose the following point, however, the score goes to deuce. This pattern keeps going until one player wins the game.
